Why Persons Get Angry with God. Part [8] 03/09/2025 (Morning thought)

Matthew 26:55 In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are you come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and you laid no hold on me. 56 But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.

The following expositions and excerpts are written for our instruction, especially as we will see a host of grievous wrongs, and apparently innocent deaths with real social injustice multiplying at an alarming rate across the earth. The first reference is to Peter, and the 2nd reference pertains to the disciples. [The Desire of Ages pp 712] He was surprised and angry that Jesus should humiliate Himself and His followers by submitting to such treatment.

[The Desire of Ages pp 697] The disciples were terrified as they saw Jesus permit Himself to be taken and bound. They were offended that He should suffer this humiliation to Himself and them. They could not understand His conduct, and they blamed Him for submitting to the mob. In their indignation and fear, Peter proposed that they save themselves. Following this suggestion, “they all forsook Him, and fled.”

But Christ had foretold this desertion, “Behold,” He had said, “the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave Me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me.” Over the brook Kedron, past gardens and olive groves, and through the hushed streets of the sleeping city, they hurried Jesus. It was past midnight, and the cries of the hooting mob that followed Him broke sharply upon the still air. The Savior was bound and closely guarded, and He moved painfully.

Matthew 26:57 And they that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled. 58 But Peter followed him afar off unto the high priest's palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end.

May The Lord add His blessing to the study of His word. God bless!
