John 11:47 Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many miracles. 48 If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation.
This is where the Jews in days of old stumbled, for they had added in their own purposes to God’s own and as a result, they expected Jesus to deliver them from the oppression of the Romans. Thus, when He did not do so, they were quick to reject Him as The Messiah, for His purposes did not fit in with their own finite mold.
Therefore, when they witnessed, or experienced a social injustice, and Jesus did not exercise His power to deliver in this or that situation, they then became quite angry with God and it became very difficult for them to accept A God who would not intervene in circumstances that they determined, warranted an intervention.
It is worthy of note that Judas was the one who was pushing for deliverance and miraculous intervention for he was heavily focused on the temporal, but not on the issues of the heart, where God’s purposes for permanent change must take place. In fact, it was Judas who was most vocal in advocating for Christ to reign as King.
Acts 1:6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? 7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
May The Lord add His blessing to the study of His word. God bless!
