The Tender Mercies Of God. 08/17/2014 (Evening thought)

Lamentations 3:21 This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. 22 It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

This passage of scripture teaches us that God is merciful and kind to all of His creation, and day by day He looks for ways and means to alleviate the sufferings of humanity. His care for us is manifested in the way He provides for us consistently, and we in turn would do well to stop by His throne of grace, to offer thanks and praise for His manifold blessings that are renewed to us every day. This fact of God's continual care for His creation is well documented in several portions of scripture. Let's read:

Psalms 104:10 He sendeth the springs into the valleys, which run among the hills. 11 They give drink to every beast of the field: the wild asses quench their thirst. 12 By them shall the fowls of the heaven have their habitation, which sing among the branches. 13 He watereth the hills from his chambers: the earth is satisfied with the fruit of thy works. 14 He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth.

What is worthy of note, and of praise, is that the mercies of God are not only restricted to the righteous, but they also fall on the heads of those who have no regard for The Creator, because the love of God towards the human family, is comparable to the love that a parent has towards a wayward child, and so, even though we often walk contrary to His revealed will, yet He does not withdraw the sustenance we need for survival. This sacred truth about the tender mercies of God is recorded not only for our instruction, but also that we may in turn emulate His unbiased kindness in our interactions with friends and foes alike, a sacred truth that is embodied in the following passage. Let's read:

Matthew 5:43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. 44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? 48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

As Christians we are to manifest a uniform kindness to all with whom we come in contact, for this is how the knowledge of God is primarily spread, not merely by preaching and teaching, but in practical deeds of love and kindness, manifested to every member of the human family, regardless of race, culture, religion, or ethnicity, for we are all the children of God who have been purchased with the blood of Jesus Christ. There are people who are easy to love, and then there are others who are more difficult to interact with, yet the universal language of love can reach and touch almost every heart, and that's why a consistent kindness shown towards everyone, will do more to tell others of God, than will many brilliant sermons.

We therefore end with a passage of scripture which encourages us to adopt the universal law of kindness, for God is greatly honored when He is allowed to live and reign in our hearts. Let's read:

Romans 12:9 Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. 10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; 20 "Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink" ....... 21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

May the Lord add His blessing to His every word. God bless!
