Mark 2:27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: 28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
This passage of scripture tells us that the Sabbath, the Lord's day, was made for the benefit of all men, and not merely for the Jewish people. One of the great misunderstandings of our time is the belief that the Sabbath of the fourth commandment was for the Jews alone, and because of this we now have two Sabbaths being referenced in Christendom, and on the various media networks. Most people now refer to the original Sabbath as the Jewish Sabbath, whereas Sunday is referred to as the Christian Sabbath.
But according to our scripture for today, Jesus Christ only recognized one Sabbath, the original one He created on the seventh day, and this is the one He designates as being for all people. In the old testament we read that God gave His commandments to the Jewish nation for disbursement to all nations, and as such we would need to clarify from the scriptures, who really is a Jew, as far as God is concerned. Let's read:
Romans 2:28 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: 29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.
In other words, what God is saying here is that being a bloodline descendent of Abraham does not necessarily make a person a Jew. The only Jews that are recognized by God are those who have Christ dwelling on the inside through the medium of His Holy Spirit, and who have His law written in their hearts. Let's read:
Romans 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
Hebrews 10:16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; 17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.
Furthermore the Bible is very clear on the issue of bloodline descendants of Abraham as it pertains to those who are actually reckoned as the children of God. Let's read:
Romans 9:6 Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel: 7 Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called. 8 That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.
There is absolutely no distinction between bloodline Jews and spiritual Jews, once the common denominator of the indwelling Christ is present, and thus the Sabbath of the fourth commandment is applicable to all men everywhere, regardless of race, caste, or nationality. When Luke traced Christ's genealogy, he took us way past Abraham, to Arphaxad, Lamech, Shem, and Seth, even to Adam, and none of those mentioned who lived prior to Abraham were bloodline Jews, even though Abraham himself descended from them. It follows logically then, that the term "Jew" must of necessity mean much more than just bloodline descendents of Abraham. Let's read:
Matthew 1:1 The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
And it continues all the way back into the distant past. Let's read:
Luke 3:34 Which was the son of Jacob, which was the son of Isaac, which was the son of Abraham, which was the son of Thara, which was the son of Nachor, 36 Which was the son of Cainan, which was the son of Arphaxad, which was the son of Sem, which was the son of Noe, which was the son of Lamech, 37 Which was the son of Mathusala, which was the son of Enoch, which was the son of Jared, which was the son of Maleleel, which was the son of Cainan, 38 Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God.
Again we read in the scriptures that there is absolutely no difference as far as God is concerned, in what we now refer to as different races of men. In the world of Mangoes, we have numerous different types, with many different shades and colors, and widely differing tastes. We have the east Indian mango and the Julie mango, and we also have long, calabash and teen mangoes, but at the end of the day, they are all mangoes. It's the same with men, numerous shades, different nationalities, varying features, and many creeds, but when the dust settles, they are all men, with no difference whatsoever in the sight of God. Let's read:
Romans 10:12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Acts 17:24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; 26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation.
Since the Bible states that God has made of "One blood" all men, it means then that the term "Jew", must be primarily, a spiritual designation, and therefore the sabbath which was given to the Jews was intended for all men of "One blood".
It becomes very evident that the doctrine of a Christian Sabbath, Sunday, has no foundation in the scriptures, and therefore we must qualify it as "A doctrine of men", meaning that it did not originate with God, and therefore should be regarded as a normal working day without any sanctity whatsoever. In the current attempts to make God's law of no effect in modern society, let us be careful not to subscribe to any theology that tries to remove what God has firmly established by precept and example, and if we live by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God, the following blessings will be ours. Let's read:
Revelation 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
May this promise be appropriated by everyone, for it is soon to be fulfilled. God Bless!
