Genesis 30:27 And Laban said unto him, I pray thee, if I have found favor in thine eyes, tarry: for I have learned by experience that the Lord hath blessed me for thy sake. 28 And he said, Appoint me thy wages, and I will give it.
Laban in our day should not expect to pay Jacob with profits he hopes to reap from the stock market, because the ebb and flow of Bitcoin, and other Crypto currencies, could put Jacob’s payment at risk, if Laban was depending on profits from these instruments. [Testimonies Vol 7, pp 175] Some canvassers have thought themselves ill-treated when required to make prompt payment to the publishers for books received, but prompt remittal is the only successful way of conducting business.
[2] Showing mercy when mercy is warranted. There might be times when Laban really cannot afford to pay. Let’s say Laban got laid off in the mass firings that are taking place currently, then he might really be in a difficult situation where he just cannot afford to pay for work that he needs done.
In such situations, Laban should be up front with Jacob, by letting him know that he lost his job as a federal worker, and he can ask Jacob to show some mercy. Now, the onus will be on Jacob to manifest mercy, and if Jacob could afford to he can, however, Laban must not try to bully Jacob into doing so.
Leviticus 25:39 And if thy brother that dwelleth by thee be waxen poor, and be sold unto thee; thou shalt not compel him to serve as a bondservant: 40 But as an hired servant, and as a sojourner, he shall be with thee, and shall serve thee unto the year of jubilee.
May God add His blessing to the study of His word. “Good night” and God bless!
