Numbers 16:16 And Moses said unto Korah, Be thou and all thy company before the Lord, thou, and they, and Aaron, tomorrow. 17 And take every man his censer, and put incense in them, and bring ye before the Lord every man his censer, two hundred and fifty censers; thou also, and Aaron, each of you his censer.
Thus, it became necessary for God to set the record straight, if perchance, the deceived ones would turn from their falsehoods and repent. What The Lord did next was to remove entirely, any questions and any doubt, so that the truth in the matter would be established upon irrefutable facts.
Here, God gave unmistakable proof that the rebels were in the wrong, and that their fabrication of lies were unfounded. But God didn’t stop there, for He is merciful; therefore, He gave the 250 princes time to see their error clearly, if haply they might repent.
But they had become so firmly entrenched in their lies, together with the embarrassment of having to admit they were wrong, that they dug in deeper in their falsehoods, and thus they became ripe for the destruction that followed, for whenever the human agent becomes so deeply rooted in lies that his/her rational reasoning is distorted, there is very little, if anything, God can do to save them.
Numbers 16:31 And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground parted asunder under them. 32 And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods.
