Mark 2:23 And it came to pass that he went through the corn fields on the sabbath day; and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn. 24 And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful?
Here was a gravely important lesson which Christ sought to impress upon the Jews, when the letter of the law was brought into question, pertaining to a violation of the Sabbath. At that time the disciples were on a mission, travelling through the fields of corn on the sabbath day, and being hungry, they began to pluck the ears of corn and eat.
This caused an upset in the minds of the Jews who interpreted this action of the disciples as a flagrant violation of the Sabbath. But Jesus replied to their concerns by stating unequivocally, that He is Lord of the Sabbath, meaning that whatsoever might be the written law, if He was okay with what the disciples were doing, that settles the matter.
It is a matter of maintaining the authority invested in the chain of command which God Himself has put into place. Thus, in Isaac’s case, the most important consideration, after learning from his father what God had commanded, was to honor that chain of command, even if there were valid questions and reservations as per the request.
Proverbs 2:1 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; 2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; 5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God. 6 For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
May The Lord add His blessing to the study of His word. God bless!
