According to our passage above, America did not come upon the stage of action by chance. It was because of God’s direct intervention, in providing a place of refuge for those pilgrims, who were fleeing religious oppression in parts of Europe, why God’s providence opened the way for the new nation to be established. As the persecution and superstition of the dark ages, was being lifted, God was opening up ways and means so the the oppressed could go free.
In all of the play and counter-play of the human experience, it was prophecy being fulfilled as the young nation was being established. Too often we find ourselves dwelling on what the human agent is doing, not remembering that we are but instruments in God’s hands to accomplish His purposes. The evening and the morning were the first day according to Genesis chapter 1, and therefore, night always comes before the morning.
Thus, as the early rays of the sun were beginning to dispel the horrors of heathenism and paganism, the way was being opened up for America to become the great nation it was scheduled to be. Thus, even though we are so prone to forget, we should always remember that our standing in the world is not by chance, but is a result of providence and prophecy combined, to fulfill God’s will as is written in His word.
Isaiah 40:14 With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of judgment, and taught him knowledge, and shewed to him the way of understanding? 15 Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing.
