Isaiah 30:21 And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.
There are times when God may choose to grant us additional instructions to meet the needs of some particular situation, and in some instances, following the general counsels given in the Bible might not be sufficient to steer us clear of difficulty. Especially is the instruction of God needed in those gray areas of life, where the Bible may not spell out in clear, distinct lines which course of action we are to pursue, or which specific decision to make in any given situation.
And because of this, we would need the voice of God as we endeavor to navigate the maze of voices coming at us from time to time, from so many directions. Clear discernment, and wisdom is needed from God if we are to avoid serious errors in judgment, for the Bible gives us general principles and specific laws to cover every phase of our lives. But to have them be applied in our particular situation might be another matter altogether.
For instance, the Bible teaches us that we must not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for there will be a disconnect between the two perspectives both spouses adopt in life. But the Bible does not tell us which particular person to marry, and for this reason we will need A Person, even The Lord Jesus, to guide us through such an important decision. It all has to do with the spoken word, the various ways God directs us in addition to that which is written.
Genesis 24:12 And he said O Lord God of my master Abraham, I pray thee, send me good speed this day, and shew kindness unto my master Abraham. 13 Behold, I stand here by the well of water; and the daughters of the men of the city come out to draw water. 14 And let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: let the same be she that thou hast appointed for thy servant Isaac; and thereby shall I know that thou hast shewed kindness unto my master. 15 And it came to pass, before he had done speaking, that, behold, Rebekah came out.
May God add His blessing to the study of His word. “Good night” and God bless!
