1st Thessalonians 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first.
[That I may Know Him pp 71] He who had said, “I lay down my life, that I might take it again” came forth from the grave to life that was in Himself. Humanity died; divinity did not die. In His divinity Christ possessed the power to break the bonds of death. He declares that He has life in Himself to quicken whom He will.
God had also given us this same assurance back in the days of yore, but it was not made as plain as when Jesus gave us those explanations in the book of John. Previously, a singular incident had hinted at the very same truth, but it was probably dismissed as a mystery beyond comprehension. Elisha had died and was buried in a cave, where his bone were resting.
But foreign armies had invaded the land, and during that time, some folks were on their way to bury a man. However, when they saw the enemy, they became desperate, and in their haste to bury their dead, they let the coffin down into the same cave where Elisha was buried. What happened next constitutes the truths about Divinity joining forces with humanity through Christ, and the life-giving power that Divinity brings to all who accept Christ as Lord and Savior.
2nd Kings 13:21 And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they spied a band of men; and they cast the man into the sepulcher of Elisha: and when the man was let down, and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet.
May God add His blessing to the study of His word. “Good night” and God bless!
