Proverbs 14:34 Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.
This passage of scripture lays before us in a nutshell, the results which accrue to nations and individuals, if either righteousness or sin is chosen. When a nation chooses right principles and laws that are in harmony with God's great moral law, then the sure result is prosperity and peace that cannot be paralleled by other nations that choose unrighteousness. And conversely with the choice to sin; if a nation deliberately chooses a sinful course of action that flies in the face of God's moral law, then the sure result is financial ruin and social mayhem, because the blessings of God never, ever attend wickedness in high and low places.
When asked about the incarceration of the Kentucky clerk, who was jailed for not putting her signature on gay marriage licenses, some politicians responded by saying that we are a nation of laws, and since same-sex marriage is now the law of the land, then it should be obeyed with no question or remonstrance by those who are appointed by the state. But that argument is shallow at best, for being a nation of laws is in and of itself no justification for instituting laws that are contrary to God's universal law of Ten commandments. As a matter of fact, every nation under heaven falls into the same category of being a nation of laws, and so the real question is, are we a nation of "Just" laws?
It is worthy of note that the Taliban also have laws, and Saudi Arabia has laws too, and so does North Korea, and all other nations and groups who keep their people in abject servitude, and prevent women from driving, and from obtaining an education. They are all in that one and the same category, "A nation of laws". Thus, it becomes necessary for us to carefully weigh our own laws against the universal code of righteousness that has been given us by God, for it's only when our laws mirror His, that we can claim a unique constitution that is based on sound principles, and laws that are in harmony with God's great moral code.
Not because a majority opinion becomes the law of the land, that it is then to be considered good and upright. Nebuchadnezzar, king of ancient Babylon made certain laws that were in direct opposition to the law of God, and those who dared to dissent were threatened with being burned alive. Now, just because it was the law of the land did not make it a just law, and when this arbitrary decree was about to be enforced, Christ Himself left heaven, and intruded upon the scene, to bring to naught the king's councils, so that His faithful servants could be exonerated, and His name glorified. Let's read:
Daniel 3:16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king".... 17 If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace".... 18 But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up. 19 Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury".... 20 And he commanded the most mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace. 24 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king. 25 He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.
Let us then be very wary of the arguments now being put forward in favor of gay marriage, for God has already stated in His word what constitutes marriage, and no mortal man, or earthly monarch is authorized to add to, or subtract from what God has already set in stone. We therefore end with a passage of scripture which cautions us against interfering with what God has ordained, especially as it pertains to the fundamental structure and cohesiveness of all society. Let's read:
Matthew 19:1 And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these sayings".... 4 "He answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, 5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? 6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
May God add His blessing to the study and practice of His word. "Good night' and God bless!
