Christ, The Fulness Of The God-Head. 06/24/2015 (Morning thought)

Colossians 2:8  Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.  9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.  10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power.

This passage of scripture teaches us that all the fulness of the God-head resides in Jesus Christ bodily, a teaching that must be thoroughly understood and accepted if we are to harbor right and intelligent views of God. The teaching of some religions, where Jesus is designated as a lesser God than the Father, is not based in the scriptures, and is one of the doctrines of devils, designed to minimize the work and importance of Christ. The Bible teaches us that Christ in His role as the Savior of mankind, volunteered to take on the flesh and blood of human beings, who He came to save, and because of this He humbled Himself and became subservient to The Father above, thus teaching us to depend upon God for everything.

However, the scripture is abundantly clear in stating that His condescension to save us from our sins in no way altered or minimized His great authority in the heavens, for instead of being minimized, Christ was instead exalted to the highest heights by this one singular act of great humility. A father who runs into a burning building to save his children, and who is scarred in the process, is in no way minimized, but is rather magnified greatly for His heroic deeds. In a much greater and exalted sense is the sacrifice of Jesus for us on Calvary, for by this act of humility and kindness, He is now exalted to the highest heavens, both literally, and in the minds of those who appreciate what He has done for us. Let's read:

Philippians 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.  9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:  10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;  11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Thus it is that the various erroneous teachings that abound, about the Person and status of Christ, should be avoided, lest we be taken in the snare of the adversary, who hates Christ, and is obviously very afraid of Him. Let's read:

James 2:19  Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

Christ therefore is not merely a "Good" man as is often claimed in some religions, for then He would be below Job in ranking, since Job was a "perfect" man. Let's read:

Job 1:1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.

Neither was Jesus Christ just a mere prophet, for then he would be ranked below John who was "more than a prophet". Let's read:

Matthew 11:9 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.  11 Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

The Bible teaches us that Christ trumps all principalities and powers, and therefore He must be to us, not only Redeemer and Friend, but also King of kings and Lord of lords, for this is the designation and description given Him in the scriptures. Let's read:

Isaiah 9:6  For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.  7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end"...

Let us therefore honor Jesus Christ for who He is and for what He has done, because a good understanding of His Person, office, and authority, will place us in a position to better understand and appreciate His loving kindness and mercies that are renewed to us every morning. We therefore end with a passage of scripture which reiterates the sacred truth of Christ's sovereignty, and it is the will of God, that from here on out we pray and live with the understanding. Let's read:

Revelation 19:11  And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True".... 12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.  13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.  16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King Of Kings, And Lord Of Lords.

May The Lord add His blessing to the study of His word. God bless!
