James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
This passage of scripture reminds every member of the human family that all good gifts come down to us from God, and He is consistent in His goodness towards us. The reason why Christ's model prayer begins with the words "Our Father" is because God, as the heavenly Parent provides for all of His creatures, including those who are wayward and ungrateful, since we are all His by creation and redemption. No earthly parent only takes care of those children who hardly give trouble, for the obedient and the "Trouble makers" are all from the same bloodline, and thus there is an inseparable link between us and our offspring.
On a much larger scale is the kindness of our Father in heaven manifested towards us, in that He provides for all of His creatures, for the good, the bad, and the indifferent, for we are all connected to His bloodline through Christ Jesus. Thus, the provisions made for us on a daily basis also include those are are currently estranged from God, who do not have an intimate relationship with Him, for although they may not know God, He knows them, and yearns after them with love and desire that is immeasurable, hence the reason why they are included as beneficiaries of His mercies. Let's read:
Psalm 68:18 Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast received gifts for men; yea, for the rebellious also, that the Lord God might dwell among them. 19 Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation.
Furthermore, the greatest gift that has ever been bestowed upon the human family is the gift of Jesus Christ, who was sent to free us from the shackles of sin, and to rescue us from the iron clutches of satan, who had held us captive. This greatest gift has been made available to every human being, and it is right and in order that we now show our gratitude for our freedoms, by submitting ourselves to be led By God, so that we do not return to the bondage with which we were saddled. Now, it is very important for us to show our appreciation to our earthly fathers on the day separated for lavishing our love and gratitude to them, for their loving watch-care and kindnesses to us from birth until the present day.
The question then is, how can we show our love and appreciation to our heavenly Father for all that he has done, and continues to do for us on a daily basis? The answer to this question can be found in our celebration of the earthly father's day, for just as a day has been separated for us to honor our earthly fathers, a specific day has also been set aside for us to honor our heavenly Father. As a matter of fact, the word "Sabbath" contains the Aramaic word for father, because the word Abba, is found to be sitting in the middle of it, hence the reason why our heavenly "Father's day" is celebrated once a week over the sacred hours of the seventh day. Let's read:
Romans 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.
It is considered unconscionable to forget our earthly fathers on the day separated to show our love and gratitude to them, and it is also unthinkable that we should ever forget to show our honor and thankfulness to our heavenly Father, who daily loads as with gifts and good things. Let us therefore be mindful of this fact, for in our day, it seems as if most of the world has forgotten about "Father's day", hence the reason why it is appropriate to end with a passage of scripture, reminding us of its importance. Let's read:
Exodus 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
May God add His blessing to the study and practice of His word, and "Happy Father's Day". "Good night" and God bless!
