The Sabbath In Eden. 02/07/2015 (Morning thought)

Genesis 1:27  So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.  31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

Genesis 2:1  Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.  2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.  3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

These two passages of scripture when taken together reveal some sacred truths that are to be carefully observed, for they contain important information which pertains to our well-being, health, longevity, and our ongoing relationship with God who created us. God not only set the example for us by resting over the Sabbath hours, but by so doing He made it an institution that is to be perpetuated through time and eternity. It is worthy of note that there was not any Jew present when this took place, only God, Adam, and Eve, and because of this the Sabbath is intended for all men, for it has benefits for all, regardless of religion, creed, or race, as Christ explained in detail to the multitudes of His day. Let's read:

Mark 2:27  And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:  28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

However, it's important to observe God's strategic move in the timing of our creation, for Adam and Eve were brought upon the scene of action on the sixth day, with only the seventh day Sabbath remaining, in which they would spend quality time with The Creator, which in turn teaches us the very sacred truth that our relationship with God is always to take precedence over our temporal work and concerns. This order of priority should never, ever be disturbed, and it will be observed by all faithful Christians who come to this fundamental knowledge and understanding.

The temptations of satan on this point are always designed to disturb that God-ordained order of priority, and every true Sabbath-keeping Christian will be severely tested on this singular point, whether we will put our employment, by which we earn our daily bread first, or whether God will be given precedence over the mundane and temporal things of life. In almost every situation where a Sabbath-keeping Christian is employed by the secular world, a so-called emergency situation almost always arises that calls for us to work on the seventh day of the week, in violation of the Sabbath commandment, and God watches the trial of our faith to see if we will buckle under pressure, or whether we will walk by faith, trusting in Him who made us.

What is worthy of note is that God had already supplied all of man's necessities before creating him, and so there was no urgent need to start working immediately. All the food that the heart could desire was already furnished, and so, the natural thing for the newly created Adan and Eve to do, was to give thanks and praise to their Creator, who had liberally furnished them with such bounties. And in our day, and in our own experiences, it is necessary for us to observe the correct order of priorities, by keeping the seventh day Sabbath holy, because the same God who had already provided food and drink for our first parents, has already provided life's necessities for all who follow in His footsteps.

We therefore end with a passage of scripture which promises great blessings to all faithful Sabbath keepers, and the promises thus made are given on condition of obedience, and therefore can be adopted by any member of the human family, for the Sabbath was made for all of us. Let's read:

Isaiah 58:13  If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:  14 Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.

May The Lord add His blessing to the study and practice of His every word. God bless!
