The Best Way To Believe. 10/06/2015 (Morning thought)

Mark 9:23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. 24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.

This passage of scripture contains very important advice as coming from Christ, as to the best way to believe. Jesus does not say that whatsoever we believe will indeed happen, but at least, a believing mind opens the door for limitless possibilities, according to the perfect will of God. In this instance the man had brought his son to the disciples, who had been left at the foot of the Mount of transfiguration, and because their minds had brooded over petty differences and doubts, they prevented the power of God from working in and through them, and because of this, the man's faith was severely shaken when the disciples had tried and signally failed to cast out the demon.

Thus, the very best way to believe, is not only to cling tenaciously to the promises of God that are to be fulfilled in their due season, but also to cultivate a ready mind that is prone to belief in God's promises, even when there may be no logical reason to do so, and when there may be scientific evidences to the contrary. In other words, Christ was saying to the distraught father, that he should continue to hope against hope, that his desire would be granted of God in due season, for one of the promises of God made to fallen humanity is that He will set the captives free, and thus, even though the disciples had failed, yet God had not failed, and because of this there was still hope that his son would be healed, some way and somehow. Let's read:

Mark 9:25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him. 26 And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead. 27 But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.

Peter often manifested the best way to believe, because he would often be found obeying Christ's word promptly, even when scientific evidence to the contrary would seem to point in the opposite direction. For instance, when the disciples became terrified on the sea of Galilee that eventful night, because they thought they had seen a ghost approaching them upon the foamy billows, they cried out in fear, for in their minds, the violent storm that had broken upon them, had well-nigh removed all hopes of survival, and then to put the final nail in their coffins, here comes what seems to be a ghost, walking on the waters, and heading straight for them. Let's read:

Matthew 14:24 But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary. 25 And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. 26 And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.

Now, when they realized it was indeed Jesus walking upon the waves, they were overjoyed with gratitude, for they knew that with Jesus in the vessel, they could then smile at the storm. But Peter, being impulsive as he was, asked Jesus if he could go meet Him on the water, and to this singular request Christ replied, "Come". Then Peter, without trying to figure out all the science behind the command, and without taking into consideration the laws of gravity and buoyancy, stepped out in faith, and the rest is history, for the Bible says that he actually walked on the water. Let's read:

Matthew 14:28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. 29 And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.

It is then of critical importance for us to implement the best way in believing God's word, for often in our lives, there are boisterous waves and contrary winds which threaten to rip us apart, and at times we may even see a ghost walking upon the foam-capped billows. Then, to the believing mind, it must be The "Holy Ghost" coming to our aid, for it is often the case that God comes through to save us in unexpected times and ways. But we must believe, for all things are possible to him that believeth.

We therefore end with a passage of scripture which cautions us not to harbor the spirit of unbelief, for believing implicitly in God is never an option for the Christian, it is a fundamental necessity. Let's read:

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

May The Lord add His blessing to the study and practice of His every word. God bless!
