Daniel 4:13 I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed, and, behold, a watcher and an holy one came down from heaven; 14 He cried aloud, and said thus, Hew down the tree, and cut off his branches, shake off his leaves, and scatter his fruit: let the beasts get away from under it, and the fowls from his branches: 16 Let his heart be changed from man's, and let a beast's heart be given unto him; and let seven times pass over him. 17 This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.
This passage of scripture teaches us that all the kingdoms of this world, including all people from every tribe and nation are under the sovereign rule of God, whether we acknowledge that fact or not. Just because a person might be an avowed atheist or secularist does not mean that he or she does not fall under the jurisdiction of God, for we are all his children, first by creation, and secondly by redemption. A misunderstanding of this fundamental truth leads many of us to believe that if we choose not to be a Christian, it then means that God is thereby disbanded from having anything to do with us, as if our choice interferes in any way with His sovereignty. This mode of thought isn't correct.
There are those who live in America who may hate the Federal government, and may even relinquish the national oath of allegiance. However if they were to break any laws in America, the Feds will go searching for them and will make legal arrests and imprisonment where necessary, for their disavowal of their allegiance, in no way diminishes the jurisdiction of the Federal government over all citizens. On a much grander and universal scale is the sovereignty of The Eternal God, who rules in all the affairs of men, regardless of creed, color, race, or political affiliation, as is plainly stated in the passage above.
In the passage in Daniel chapter four, the Lord appeared out of nowhere to Nebuchadnezzar the king, and issued an indictment against his pride and love of self approbation, which resulted in him being turned into one of the beasts of the field for a period of seven years. During this time his digestive system was changed to a beast's own, and his thoughts were like that of an animal, so that when night time came, he quietly lay down in some hay to sleep with the other cattle, whereas before he would normally be snuggling with Mrs. Nebuchadnezzar under the sheets. This experience continued for seven long years and over this period of time he was to eat a considerable amount of humble pie, until he learned the hard way, that God is indeed Sovereign Ruler of all.
There are those who might erroneously conclude that because they have never entered into a covenant relationship with Christ, therefore He cannot legally have any jurisdiction over them, and this concept has born fruit in pop songs such as "It's my life" and "I did it my way". But this view is contrary to what the Bible teaches and will have to be addressed sooner or later by all the inhabitants of planet earth. Let's read:
Ecclesiastes 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. 14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
2nd Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
Let us therefore so live and so do as those who will be called to account for our activities and decisions in this life, and may we ever make the right choices each day, to serve the Sovereign God with unswerving integrity. We therefore end with a passage of scripture which encourages us to think soberly about our relationship with Christ, submitting ourselves daily unto Him, so that the grand work of salvation may be brought to completion in our hearts. Let's read:
Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
May God add His blessing to the study and practice of His word. "Good night" and God bless!
