John 5:14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee. 15 The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole.
This passage of scripture features the miraculous cure of a man that was crippled on account of his sin, whom Christ healed and then issued a direct caution to, that he should abstain from again indulging in sinful activity, which obviously suggests that it was because of prior sins why he was thus incapacitated. All diseases are the result of that one original sin that was committed in the garden of Eden by our fore-parents, and which continue on to this day in large part because of a series of departures from the wise instructions God has given to the human family. Now, even though all diseases are not the direct result of personal sins, yet in many cases the root causes can be traced right back to our own doorsteps.
Even though we are born into a sinful world, with the seeds of death and decay already sown in us, yet to a large extent we can stave of the perils and evils which result from ingesting the wrong kinds of foods, and indulging in harmful activities which greatly accelerate our demise. There is something such as dying prematurely because of a wrong course of action taken on our part, and therefore The Lord warns us not to engage in any of those activities which will certainly bring the negative results, such as cancers, diabetes, obesity, heart disease, and a host of other debilitating afflictions which routinely follow the laws of cause and effect. Let's read:
Ecclesiastes 7:17 Be not over much wicked, neither be thou foolish: why shouldest thou die before thy time?
Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
One of the very harmful activities we engage in as a nation, and also on an individual basis, is the habit of eating too much sugar or artificially sweetened foods, which then affects our bones, our teeth, our blood-sugar level, our vision, and which also causes erratic spikes in energy levels, followed by a precipitous drop into a lethargical state of being. This then leads to diabetes of all sorts, which has become an epidemic not only in adults, but also in children and teenagers who are found to be ingesting inordinate amounts of sugary products, with hardly any exercise to burn off the excess caloric intake. This habit of consuming insane amounts of sweets is also usually accompanied by another health-destroying habit of sitting for long hours in front of the one-eyed monster, where chips, candy, soft-drinks and popcorn are nibbled on almost constantly. The Bible speaks against the intemperate use of sweets, and it is God's will that we pay heed to what He says. Let's read:
Proverbs 25:16 Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it. 27 It is not good to eat much honey" ....
The promises of God in the scriptures which pertain to granting us good health and longevity, have very much to do with what we eat and the activities we engage in, and therefore the responsibility rests on our own shoulders to diligently search out the precious instructions given us, so that we may prosper and be in health, even as our souls prosper. Furthermore, it is a scriptural principle that all good things that need to be accomplished in us are done through cooperation with God, and thus it behooves us to make concerted efforts by His grace, to foster sound health and length of days. We therefore end with a passage of scripture which reiterates this very point, and it is the will of God that from now on, we be faithful in living according to the abundant light that has been shed on our pathway. Let's read:
Deuteronomy 7:9 Know therefore that the Lord thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations; 11 Thou shalt therefore keep the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which I command thee this day, to do them. 12 Wherefore it shall come to pass, if ye hearken to these judgments, and keep, and do them, that the Lord thy God shall keep unto thee the covenant and the mercy which he sware unto thy fathers: 15 And the Lord will take away from thee all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee" .....
May God add His blessing to the study and practice of His word. "Good night" and God bless!
