Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
This passage of scripture teaches us the formula for dealing with chronic, spiritual and physical fatigue, a problem that most people now suffer with. The spiritual and the physical aspects of or being are closely intertwined and one affects the other, so that if we are in good spiritual health, we will benefit physically, and vice versa. Hence the reason why the apostle John penned the following words of inspiration, that we may have a better understanding of the relationship between spiritual and physical health. Let's read:
3rd John 1:2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
Physical fatigue can be productive of great evil, for when our minds are weary, we do not usually think as we ought to, and it is at times like these that the devil often seizes the opportunity to suggest temptations to us that he otherwise may have hesitated to bring, for he knows that when we are tired, we are less likely to resist his temptations. Many of us fly into a rage much more easily when weary, than when our minds have had sufficient rest, hence the reason why Christ invites us to learn of Him, so that we can find rest in it's entirety, unto our souls.
The solution to chronic fatigue begins with having our priorities in the right order, meaning that we should spend quality time each day, learning of Christ and conversing with Him. When this is done on a consistent basis, the Lord then responds by giving us fresh renewals of both spiritual and physical strength, so that we can run the Christian race without being fatigued. This sacred truth is recorded as a promise in the scriptures for the consideration and application of every Christian. Let's read:
Isaiah 40:29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. 31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
When God has the first place in our affections and interests, He shows us how to weed out the time-consuming habits and events, which are not productive of any real, or tangible good, and thus we can have much more time for physical rest, so that we can be rejuvenated in heart and mind to take up another day's responsibilities.
One of the culprits which consume a considerable amount of valuable time, is that one-eyed monster sitting in the corner of our living room or bedroom, which many of us have now been accustomed to going to sleep with. When this is done, the agitated scenes that have crossed our minds, together with the bad news and subliminal messages we have imbibed, slip into our unconscious minds, and often disturb our rest with random replays of the information found in the library of our souls, and it is often the case that we awake from sleep in the morning, unrefreshed and cranky, not having a clue as to what caused the disturbances.
Seeking God as a first and indispensable priority will bring us into contact with divine power, knowledge, and understanding, so that the unnecessary activities which crowd out our physical rest can be eliminated from our lives. We therefore end with a passage of scripture which shows us that the necessary changes and reforms can be put in place through the grace and power of God, for He desires that we find permanent rest in Christ. Let's read:
Hebrews 4:1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. 3 For we which have believed do enter into rest. 9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
May God add His blessing to the doing of His word, and may we find rest unto our souls as we abide in Christ each day. "Good night" and God bless!
