1st Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; 6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
This passage of scripture teaches us the important and sacred truth that only Jesus Christ can reconcile us back to God. There are many great world religions, most of which offer eternal life to their adherents, but it's only the religion of Christianity that has actually delivered on such promises. In the Bible we read of the translation of Elijah and Enoch, and then again we read of the resurrection of Moses, Lazarus, and a multitude of saints who came out of their graves after the resurrection of Christ. Let's read:
Matthew 27:50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. 51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; 52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, 53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.
However, no such record is written anywhere of Mohammed, Buddha, Krishna, Selassie or even Gandhi, the reason being that they all lacked a fundamental prerequisite to grant eternal life; they did not have life in and of themselves, for they were given life just like any other human being, and God the Life-Giver takes it back again at the end of life's journey, regardless of what the great religions of the earth profess. Only Jesus Christ has life inherently within Himself, and that's why He can freely impart to us what is originally His. Let's read:
1st John 5:11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
In our day the religion of Christ is under attack from forces within and without. The secular world is more and more antagonistic to the teachings of God's word, and religious leaders are now sanctioning, condoning, and authorizing that which Jesus has specifically branded as anathema. Then again, in some countries in the middle east, Christians are being tortured and executed for their faith in Jesus on a regular basis, and it seems as if on all fronts, that the devil is determined to rid the earth of a knowledge of the One and only true and living God. What many do not realize when fighting against Christ, is that they are fighting against eternal life, and therefore their hopes of immortality are being diminished the more they wage war against Him.
However, as Christians we have the assurance that Christ has already won, and to those of us who put our confidence and trust in Him, He will grant major victories, both in the temporal and spiritual realms. It is only through Christ that any mortal man can have access to God, and as such, the promises made by other religions will one day prove to be empty and without any substance. We therefore encourage everyone to get to know Christ while probationary time lingers, for He is more than ready and willing to forgive and accept all those who come to Him in faith. We end with a passage of scripture which encourages us to do just that. Let's read:
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
May we appropriate to ourselves God's gift of eternal life through Christ today, for it is His will that all men should be saved, and come to a knowledge of the truth. God bless!
