Matthew 5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
This passage of scripture teaches us that it is of vital importance that whatsoever we advocate from the Bible as Christians, must be embodied in our daily lives, so that the word of God may shine radiantly through, to those we come in contact with, wherever we may go. It is true that we all slip up from time to time, and even preachers and teachers are not immune to the gravitational pull of sin. However, the general tenor of our experience should be onward and upward, for if we place our trust and confidence in Christ, He will bring the work He has begun in our hearts to perfection. Let's read:
Philippians 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.
However, it's important to note that doing God's will, and living by His word on a daily basis, can only be accomplished through cooperation with God, for He never dispenses with the part the human agent is to act in the process of salvation. That's why the passage in Matthew says "Whosoever shall do and teach", meaning that the doing and the teaching is done by the human agent as we are empowered to do so by the Holy Ghost, through our own free will. As Christians we should ever avoid the temptation to hold the truth only on an intellectual level, without the essentials of faith and practice, for this is detrimental to our experience, and ends in eternal loss.
The apostle Paul refers to those who hold the truth in unrighteousness, as being subjects of the wrath of God, for they not only live a lie, but they also lead others to take God's grace for granted, through deliberate disobedience in the face of plain truths. Let's read:
Romans 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; 19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
This was especially the case with Judas, who being in the presence of the perfect purity of Christ, deliberately chose to walk contrary to sound doctrine, and always became offended when his sins were pointed out to him by Christ, even though Jesus used consummate tact and skill in hiding from public view, the one who was thus being reproved. At the last supper, when Christ stated that one of His disciples will betray Him, He never called Judas by name, but left the statement to hang in doubt for awhile, as to who He was really referring to. It was only after John set in motion a series of personal questions and answers, that Judas' nefarious plans were utlimately disclosed.
In our day, The Lord still works tirelessly in behalf of those who claim to be His disciples, and His hands are outstretched daily in loving overtures, bidding us to walk in harmony with what we advocate, and counseling us to avoid a religious experience which does not touch the heart. God is willing and able to strengthen the weakest one of us to live what we preach, if we will surrender ourselves and our own ideas to Him. We therefore end with a passage of scripture which should be an encouragement to us, to live according to every word that proceeds from the mouth of God, for He will grant the necessary grace, for practical godliness to become a living reality in our lives. Let's read:
Isaiah 40:29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. 31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
May God add His blessing to the study and doing of His every word. God bless!
