Acts 17:29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device. 30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent.
This passage of scripture teaches us the sacred truth that we were made by The intelligent Creator of the world, made in His image and likeness, and not like four- footed beasts and creatures, which operate by instinct. This fundamental truth of who we are sheds much light on the purpose for our existence, and it also directly affects the way we value human life. For instance, if we believe in the theory of evolution, we will believe in survival of the fittest, where only the brightest, the richest, the healthiest and the most privileged have any chance of survival, and thus our main purpose in life will be to achieve these temporal goals, and our focus will be on survival.
However, if we believe that we are the offspring of God, then that fact puts a whole new perspective on the purpose and reasons for life, and our existence as intelligent created beings, and therefore our focus will not be on survival, but rather on surrender. The two opposing views of creation and evolution therefore draw a line of demarcation between those who will ultimately espouse the truths of God's word, and those who reject the teachings of Holy writ, and that's why the Sabbath of the fourth commandment is a sign for those who acknowledge God as Creator and Lord.
Now it is true that there are many sincere Christians who ignorantly worship God on the false sabbath of Sunday, a day that has no sanctity whatsoever, and that's why the Bible states in our passage for today that in times of ignorance God winks. But the passage does not end there, for it goes on to say "Now, He commandeth all men everywhere to repent", meaning that sufficient light and information has been shed on our pathway that we may know the certainty of our origins, and consequently be willing to give God the glory by honoring Him upon the Seventh day Sabbath.
In our day there are determined efforts being made to sabotage the Sabbath of the fourth commandment by instituting Sunday as the official day of rest, in direct opposition to what God has plainly stipulated in His word, and these efforts are being coordinated by those in the upper echelons of society, and also by the religious hierarchy of the world. That' why The God of heaven is now calling on all true believers everywhere to return to the worship of the one and only true God, by acknowledging the fact of our creation, and by keeping the seventh day Sabbath holy. Let's read:
Revelation 14:6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, 7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
It is high time that a thorough, unbiased investigation of the scriptures on these very important points be made by all honest-hearted people, and it is the will of God, that when truth and duty are brought home to our consciences, that the appropriate response of willing obedience and surrender of our preconceived ideas, would move us to accept the sacred truths pertaining to these issues. We therefore end with a conditional promise to all who by faith, walk in obedience to the word of The Lord by keeping His Sabbath day holy. Let's read:
Isaiah 58:13 If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: 14 Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.
Let us then walk in the footsteps of Christ who died for us, by being obedient to all of God's commandments, for we are His offspring, and offspring should always follow the good example of their predecessors. God bless!
