Exodus 31:1 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, 2 See, I have called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah: 3 And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, 4 To devise cunning works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, 5 And in cutting of stones, to set them, and in carving of timber, to work in all manner of workmanship.
This passage of scripture pulls back the curtain and reveals the true source of all knowledge, skill, and understanding in the different fields of labor and innovation, which we are involved in from day to day. God is the One who is responsible for all good inventions, for all talents, and for all of our abilities to accomplish whatsoever is good and beneficial to the human family. No one does anything good without God. The talents and skills He bestows on the children of men are not only given to Christians, they also fall upon the heads of the ungodly also, even though God is not in their thoughts, nor acknowledged as the giver of all good gifts. Let's read:
Psalms 68:18 Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast received gifts for men; yea, for the rebellious also, that the Lord God might dwell among them.
As finite man is enabled by God, he is able to produce intricate and technologically advanced inventions and innovations in many areas, and the products thus invented are mostly attributed to the intelligence and wisdom of the inventor. But without God these advances could never take place, and all of our so-called intelligence will amount to nothing. As a matter of fact, the Bible teaches us that all of our wisdom in the material things of this world amount to foolishness in God's sight, for our inventions are light years away from the wisdom and understanding that God manifests in the operations of the universe. Let's read:
1st Corinthians 3:18 Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness. 20 And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain. 21 Therefore let no man glory in men".
The Bible is not saying that the productions that come from man are all inferior and of no value, what the word is saying is that everything good thing which we produce is as a result of God working in and through us , and therefore the glory and praise for our achievements belong to Him alone. Furthermore, we should also understand that with all that God accomplishes through us, there is an infinity of knowledge beyond our reach, which makes manifest the superior wisdom of God.
For instance, one day whilst we were playing music at the Ron Jon surf shop in Orlando Florida, the entire building suddenly began to shake and vibrate tremendously. People started running outside in panic, only to discover that the cause of the heavy vibration was the space shuttle that was lifting off for a scheduled flight, and because of this, the power of its engines shook the entire surrounding area and buildings for miles around. As we all looked up into the sky the shuttle was rapidly pulling away from earth at a speed of approximately 17000 miles per hour, as its boosters and main engines delivered a total of over six million pounds of thrust.
Very impressive by modern standards, but in the sight of God "Total Foolishness" for Jesus Christ was able to make the trip from earth to heaven and back in one day, a distance that can only be measured in trillions of light years, and He did this without any engines or rocket boosters.
As Christians, we should form the habit of acknowledging and thanking God for what He is able to accomplish in and through us, always remembering that it is from Him we get all of our abilities, skills and talents. We therefore end with a passage of scripture that points us to our Creator as The Beneficent God from whom all good gifts and talents flow. Let's read:
Acts 17:24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; 25 Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; 26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; 27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: 28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.
May we ever live with this understanding, for the sacred truths here described pertain to our advancement in both the temporal and spiritual aspects of our being. God bless!
