Acts 17:24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; 25 Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; 27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: 28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.
This passage of scripture teaches us that God is much more involved in the everyday human experience than most people realize or acknowledge. God did not create the world and then leave it to run on auto pilot, without His direct intervention in our lives. There are those who advocate the doctrine of "Mother nature", in which they claim that the everyday operations of the earth are the result of nature doing its work without regulation or supervision by an intelligent omnipotent God. But nothing can be further from the truth, for the scriptures show us in great detail, that God is the one who keeps the forces of nature in check, and that they are at His command to do His pleasure at anytime and in any place. Let's read:
Psalms 104:1 Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty. 5 Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever. 6 Thou coveredst it with the deep as with a garment: the waters stood above the mountains. 7 At thy rebuke they fled; at the voice of thy thunder they hasted away. 8 They go up by the mountains; they go down by the valleys unto the place which thou hast founded for them. 9 Thou hast set a bound that they may not pass over; that they turn not again to cover the earth. 13 He watereth the hills from his chambers: the earth is satisfied with the fruit of thy works. 14 He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth;
For instance, right here in the sunshine state of Florida, the rainy season is scheduled to start on the first of June, that's why over the last few days we have had a whole lot of rain. The showers we received were not the result of some haphazard, unregulated outburst of mother nature, but is rather the result of an intelligent God, exercising His power continually for the benefit and sustenance of man. Let's read:
Leviticus 26:4 Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit. 5 And your threshing shall reach unto the vintage, and the vintage shall reach unto the sowing time: and ye shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely.
Those who deny the existence and power of God cannot be saved, except there is a relinquishing of those ideologies and philosophies that seek to eliminate God from the human equation. In our day there is an increasing forgetfulness of God, and even amongst many Christians, God is held in subjection to one's wishes and demands, and He is limited to what many think, ought to be His stipulated sphere of operation. For instance, very many Christians believe that God can forgive and bless them, but many do not accept the fact that God can tell them what to do, and so their personal lives are held aloof from His commands, laws and statutes.
We therefore end with a passage of scripture that reminds us of our total dependence on God and it consequently behooves us to acknowledge in practical ways our dire need of him for all of life's necessities. Let's read:
Psalms 103:1 Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. 2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: 3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; 4 Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; 5 Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.
May we ever live with the consciousness that we are totally dependent on God. God Bless!
