2nd Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
The tendency to deem the Bible as not being relevant, often stems from a desire to have the reproof and correction it offers against the carnal desires of the heart, removed. God's word is still valid even in the twenty-first century, for it teaches us the eternal principles of righteousness that cannot be repudiated or gainsaid. Furthermore it clearly delineates the moral law of God by which everyone should live, and therefore any attempt to nullify, negate, or repress its sacred teachings will inevitably result in the collapse of modern society.
The current efforts being made by major companies and legislative bodies to silence the voice of truth as embodied in the scriptures will lead to untold violence, grave immorality, and major upheavals of nature as a direct result. Let's read:
2nd Timothy 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
As the law of God and the teachings of His word are cast aside for the laws and traditions of men, we are going to witness and experience a corresponding deterioration of society in general, and actions which were once unthinkable will become the norm. We will see the day when much of the teachings of the Bible will be branded as "hate speech", and thus the work of salvation will be brought to a swift close, for wherever the word of God is abolished, the work of the Holy Spirit will cease, because the efforts made to sanctify and cleanse us from sin, all take place through the Word. Let's read:
John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
Psalms 119:142 Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and thy law is the truth.
We therefore make a direct appeal to magistrates, politicians, and legislative bodies not to legislate wickedness for the sake of popularity or pecuniary gain, even though a strong current of prevailing sentiment tends to the contrary. One of the amazing aspects of biblical theology is that it allows an individual the freedom to choose to do good or evil. However, when as a nation we enter the arena of legalizing sin, and penalizing good, we take it upon ourselves to usurp the prerogatives of God, and this can only end in the total collapse of society.
Whatever pressures are brought to bear, whether politically, financially or through popularity, we should have the courage to stand up for the right; and if right-doing seems to be unpopular, then we should never resort to the poor alternative of legislating evil. If a person chooses to do evil, without violating the rights of others, then let him do evil, for the God of Heaven has given him the freedom to choose. But never should we take it upon ourselves to legislate evil, for then we will have to render an account to God for usurping the right that belongs to Him alone, that of stipulating what is right and what is wrong. Let's read:
Proverbs 14:34 Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.
Proverbs 29:2 When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.
We sincerely hope and trust that as a nation and as individuals we will hearken to the voice of God speaking to us through the pages of Holy writ, for very ominous clouds are on the horizon, as we observe that the overwhelming amount of the news we hear today is "bad news". We therefore end with a passage of scripture given to encourage the establishment of right principles. Let's read:
Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
Therefore let those who have ears to hear, listen to what the scriptures teach. God bless!
