John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
It is of the utmost importance that we harbor correct scriptural views of who Jesus Christ is, for what we believe has a direct impact on what we expect of Him. Our passage of scripture tells us unmistakeably that "all things were made by Him", and when the Bible says all it means all. The three members of the God-Head were involved in the work of creation, and the roles and input of each were absolutely essential to the creation of all animate and inanimate things. One of the issues we should be mindful of when studying the Bible is that we should let the word speak for itself, without bringing preconceived ideas to bear on its interpretation. This is what is plainly stated by the apostle Peter. Lets read:
2nd Peter 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
As it pertains to the creation, the Bible teaches that the three members of the God-Head were present and involved when God created the heavens and the earth. Let's read:
Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
Here we observe The Father, and The Holy Spirit working in conjunction. But Jesus Christ is also present and involved too. The phrase "and God said" refers directly to the person and the voice of Jesus Christ, for He is the audible, spoken word of the God-Head. So when we read the words "and God said", that's Jesus Christ Himself speaking things into existence. This is what our first passage of scripture explicitly states and the same truth is reiterated in several other verses. Let's read:
Revelation 19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. 12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. 13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
These passages of scripture teach us in no uncertain terms that "The Word Of God" is a person, and that person is the Lord Jesus Christ. The acceptance of this fundamental truth clears the way for us to receive the ultimate truth, as it pertains to our existence and our expectation of immortal life. That's why we first stated that what we believe about Christ, directly affects our expectations from Him. In other words, since He is fully God, and consequently possesses creative powers, then He can also grant us immortality, which is the sole prerogative of the God-Head. Let's read:
1st John 5:11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.
2nd Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind 9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, 10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:
John 11:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
The question then is, how do these grand, central truths affect our perspective on life? How do they translate into hope, confidence and assurance, thus giving us the true meaning of life, and something much better to live for?
Answer: The scriptures teach us that there is more to life than just working hard paying bills, retiring, and then waiting to enter the portals of the tomb. If the few years we are granted on this earth was only about laboring and saving for retirement, only to die and leave it all behind, then we would rightly conclude that life is vanity. But Jesus Christ has given to all mankind, something much better to live for, and that's to obtain immortal life through Him, so we can spend eternity in the earth purified from the curse of sin. We do not know of anyone, even skeptics, atheists, and satanists, who are not interested in immortality. To live forever with Christ is the sum total of our purpose for living, and so we invite everyone, Christians and non-Christians alike to seek God while there is opportunity to do so, for those who enter into a covenant relationship with the Lord Jesus, will be raised from their dusty graves when he appears. We therefore end with a profound truth we all would do well to ponder. Let's read:
John 5:28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
We sincerely hope and pray that our decisions would be in favor of Christ and eternal life.
"Good night and God bless!
