Zechariah 10:1 Ask ye of the Lord rain in the time of the latter rain; so the Lord shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field.
This passage of scripture invites all true believers in Christ to ask for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, which is likened unto the latter rain that falls at a specific time to bring the harvests to full maturity. When we receive Christ as our personal Lord and Savior, The Holy Spirit takes up residence in our hearts and carries us from on stage of spiritual growth to another, as we choose good over evil. Without the gift of The Holy Ghost, all the knowledge we have gained from reading the scriptures can never be put into practice, because righteousness is not something we can implement in and of ourselves, but it is God who works within us to will and to do of His good pleasure. This statement of fact must be clearly understood by all Christians. Let's read:
Philippians 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. 13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
Zechariah 4:6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.
However it is also important for us to note that not every one who receives The Holy Spirit will be saved, for The Holy Ghost also brings the wicked to full maturity, by enlightening their minds as to right and wrong, and then if they persist in a wicked course of action, their evil choices are certified by the Holy Spirit, and then they are marked for destruction. This biblical conclusion is drawn from the history of the Hebrews, many of whom had been imbued with The Spirit Of God, but were subsequently lost for eternity, through a series of wrong choices they persisted in. Let's read:
Nehemiah 9:20 Thou gavest also thy good spirit to instruct them, and withheldest not thy manna from their mouth, and gavest them water for their thirst. 26 Nevertheless they were disobedient, and rebelled against thee, and cast thy law behind their backs, and slew thy prophets which testified against them to turn them to thee, and they wrought great provocations.
That's why in the book of Revelation we have two distinct harvests being portrayed, as Jesus wraps up forever, His work in the heavenly sanctuary, because The Spirit being given to everyone, we will all have had the opportunity to choose to serve God or not, and then our decisions thus made will be ratified by the Holy Spirit who has been given in varying measure to everyman. Let's read:
Revelation 14:15 And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe. 16 And he that sat on the cloud thrust in his sickle on the earth; and the earth was reaped. 17 And another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle. 18 And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe. 19 And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God.
In our own personal lives, the choice will be ours as to which harvest we will be associated with, either the first which will include all the righteous who will be granted immortality at Christ's second coming, or the second harvest, which will seal the doom of all who fall into that category. If however we choose life in Christ, we will need the power of The Holy Ghost to bring us to full Christian maturity, and for this infilling we should now be preparing and seeking God earnestly.
We therefore end with a passage of scripture which encourages us to choose life, for God is willing and able to complete the work He has begun in our hearts. Let's read:
Joel 3:13 Put ye in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe: come, get you down; for the press is full, the fats overflow; for their wickedness is great. 14 Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision. 16 The Lord also shall roar out of Zion" ...... "and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the Lord will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel.
May God add His blessing to the study and practice of His word. "Good night" and God bless!
